    Standard Sheet Former

The Standard Sheet Former is a manual laboratory sheet-making apparatus designed in strict compliance with ISO 5269/1, TAPPI T205, SCAN C26, and PAPTAC C4 international standards. It is intended for the preparation of standard circular paper samples of φ159 mm diameter from pulp fibers that have undergone cooking, beating, screening, and defibering. These standardized samples are then used for evaluating the physical, mechanical, and optical properties of paper and paperboard. The unit features an 8 L pulp tank with a height of 400 mm, a 150-mesh forming wire, and a drop-leg height of 800 mm t...

Product Introduction
The Standard sheet former operates on the wet-laid principle. A well-defibered fiber suspension is poured into the pulp tank, and a controlled vacuum generated by the 800 mm drop-leg rapidly draws the water through the forming wire, depositing the fibers uniformly to form a wet sheet. The drainage is completed in less than 3.6 seconds, ensuring even fiber distribution and high sheet uniformity. The device comes standard with a 150-mesh forming wire and a 20-mesh backing wire, along with an overflow trough for clean and safe operation.

Key Features
Full International Standard Compliance Designed exactly to ISO 5269/1, TAPPI T205, SCAN C26, and PAPTAC C4, ensuring globally comparable and traceable results.
Rapid and Uniform Formation The settling-type drainage system with an 800 mm drop-leg completes drainage in under 3.6 seconds, providing excellent sheet uniformity and fiber distribution.
Standard Specimen Size Produces circular sheets of φ159 mm, the standard dimension recognized by international norms for subsequent physical and optical testing.
Large Volume Pulp Tank The 8 L tank with a 400 mm height and 350 mm slurry level accommodates a wide range of sheet grammages.
Optimized Wire Set Standard configuration includes a 150-mesh forming wire and a 20-mesh backing wire, ensuring an optimal balance between fiber retention and drainage efficiency.
Built-in Overflow Trough Collects any excess liquid during pouring, maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
Robust and Durable Construction Net weight of 80 kg with corrosion-resistant critical components, built to withstand frequent daily use in busy laboratories.
Wide Range of Applications The standard preparation tool for paper mill QC labs, research institutes, and university pulp and paper programs, supporting fiber material research and product development.

FAQ
1. What pulp types are suitable for sheet forming?
The former is suitable for all types of chemical pulps, mechanical pulps, chemimechanical pulps, and recycled fibers. As long as the fibers are fully defibered, standardized sheets can be prepared for any wood or non-wood fiber.

2. How can I ensure consistent sheet grammage across samples?
Grammage is controlled by fiber concentration and the volume of suspension added. By maintaining a constant stock consistency and accurately measuring a fixed volume into the tank, highly repeatable target grammages can be achieved.

3. How should the forming wire and backing wire be cleaned and replaced?
After each sheet formation, rinse the wires with clean water to remove residual fibers. A soft brush may be used if necessary. Both wires are removable and replaceable; original spare parts are available from Shandong Annimet.

4. What role does the drop-leg height play in sheet formation?
The drop-leg height determines the vacuum force during drainage. The standard 800 mm height is optimized to provide rapid drainage while allowing fibers to deposit uniformly, preventing localized rapid dewatering that causes uneven sheet structure.

5. Does this instrument comply with international standards and can certificates be provided?
AT-CP-159 is manufactured in full compliance with ISO 5269/1 and TAPPI T205. Each unit comes with a factory certificate of conformity. Third-party calibration certificates can be arranged upon request.

6. How is overflow managed during operation?
The built-in overflow trough collects and drains any excess liquid during pouring, keeping the work area clean. It is recommended to pour the suspension at a controlled rate to minimize splashing.

Laboratory sheet forming is the critical bridge between fiber processing and paper property evaluation. In this process, a well-defibered pulp suspension is transformed into a uniform circular handsheet under standardized conditions, enabling researchers and quality inspectors to determine the intrinsic properties of the fibers and the effects of additives, beating, and other process variables. International standards such as ISO 5269/1 and TAPPI T205 precisely define the geometry, wire specifications, drainage conditions, and procedures for handsheet making to ensure inter-laboratory reproducibility. The prepared sheets are then subjected to a full suite of tests—grammage, thickness, tensile, burst, tear, brightness, and opacity—to predict the performance of the paper on a commercial paper machine. For paper mills, the standard sheet former is indispensable for furnish optimization and quality monitoring; for R&D institutions and universities, it is the fundamental platform for pulp and paper science education and innovative material research.
